Road Traffic Accidents
A road traffic accident refers to any accident involving at least one road vehicle, occurring on a road open to public circulation, and in which at least one person is injured.
A road traffic accident will often lead to a fatal or non-fatal injury incurred as a result of a collision on a public road involving at least one moving vehicle. Children, pedestrians, cyclists and the elderly are among the most vulnerable of road users.
A number of physical injuries can commonly result from the blunt force trauma caused by an accident, ranging to bruising and contusions to catastrophic physical injury. Following some collisions long lasting psychological problems may occur. These issues may make those who have been in a crash afraid to drive again. In some cases, the psychological trauma may affect individuals' ability to work and take on family responsibilities.
Road traffic accidents account for a great percentage of all accidents in Cyprus and all drivers of vehicles are required by law to have some type of insurance cover.
